REd Light Therapy Saunas

Picture
We carry saunas that have the Red Light Therapy optional attachment & this is why:
In recent years, red light therapy has emerged as a revolutionary and non-invasive approach to promoting health and well-being. Also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation (PBM), red light therapy utilizes specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular function, providing a wide array of potential benefits. As scientific research continues to uncover its mechanisms and applications, red light therapy is gaining popularity as a versatile and effective tool for various health and wellness concerns.
Understanding Red Light Therapy:
Red light therapy involves exposure to low levels of red or near-infrared light, typically in the range of 600 to 1000 nanometers. This specific wavelength is believed to penetrate the skin and underlying tissues, triggering biological responses at the cellular level. Unlike ultraviolet (UV) light, which can be harmful, red light therapy uses light in a safe and controlled manner.
Cellular Benefits:
At the cellular level, red light therapy has been shown to enhance mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouse of cells, responsible for producing energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). By boosting ATP production, red light therapy promotes cellular metabolism and overall cellular health.
Collagen Production and Skin Health:
One of the well-documented benefits of red light therapy is its positive impact on collagen production. Collagen is a crucial protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. As we age, collagen production naturally declines, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Red light therapy has been shown to stimulate collagen synthesis, contributing to improved skin tone, reduced wrinkles, and enhanced overall skin health.
Pain Relief and Inflammation:
Studies suggest that red light therapy may have analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory effects. It has been used to alleviate various types of pain, including joint pain, muscle soreness, and arthritis. By modulating inflammation and promoting tissue repair, red light therapy offers a drug-free and non-invasive approach to managing pain.
Sports Performance and Recovery:
Athletes and fitness enthusiasts are increasingly turning to red light therapy to enhance their performance and accelerate recovery. The therapy may help reduce muscle fatigue, improve endurance, and speed up the healing process after intense physical activity. This makes it a valuable tool for both professional athletes and weekend warriors looking to optimize their training routines.
Mood and Sleep Regulation:
Exposure to natural light is crucial for regulating circadian rhythms and maintaining a healthy sleep-wake cycle. Red light therapy, particularly when used in the evening, may support better sleep by influencing melatonin production. Additionally, some users report improved mood and reduced symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) when incorporating red light therapy into their daily routines.
Conclusion:
Red light therapy is a promising and rapidly evolving field with a growing body of scientific evidence supporting its diverse benefits. From promoting skin health and reducing pain to enhancing sports performance and supporting mental well-being, the applications of red light therapy continue to expand. As technology advances and researchers delve deeper into its mechanisms, we can expect red light therapy to become an increasingly accessible and integral part of holistic health and wellness practices.

We don't sell full foam spas - and this is why...

We don't sell spray foam insulated spas.

Why?

1 - Spray foam is not the most efficient insulation system. Want proof? Just ask the California Energy Commission, the only regulatory body that actually tests hot tubs for energy efficiency.

2 - Spray foam holds water for a LONG LONG time. This means that your spa could be leaking slowly for months before you even realise there is a problem. Wet foam results in mould and before you know it you're out of warranty and your dealer wont fix the tub for free anymore.

3 - Once your spray foam insulation becomes waterlogged it loses its effectiveness as far as keeping the water warm & the weight of the wet spray foam also pulls lines and plumbing out of place. Just simple physics.

4 - If your spas pumps aren't given the space to breathe they can overheat and shut down. Another common thing we see with spray foam insulated spas.

5 - Spray foam is an attractive place for rodents to hide, and you can only imagine the issues that can be caused when you're housing a rat in your brand new expensive hot tub!

on the subject of resolutions

Read Now

Picture
Most of our customers know that if you visit our store you are greeted by vast array of products ranging from fitness equipment to pool and spa supplies, barbecues, and more!

This time of year particularly, our fitness sales see a major boost - thanks to everyone making fitness their "New Years Resolution".

We've all made getting in better shape a priority at one point or the other - but what does it really take to see new years resolution RESULTS?
After almost 7 years in business we've started to see  a pattern among those that are successful in following through with their resolutions, no matter what they are.

1. BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Ever catch yourself making a to do list, and then adding a couple things at the bottom of it that you know you've already done, just for the satisfaction of crossing them off? It's OK to allow yourself to celebrate small victories - even if it means reminding yourself of them.
Kindness to oneself should also be a factor in making your new years resolution itself. Don't set extraordinary goals for yourself that you know you will stress yourself trying to reach. Resolutions should be sources of inspiration not toxic burdens.

2. KEEP GOING
Weather the goal is to pay off debt, work off weight, travel or sell your home - the road to worthwhile change is never a simple one. Be your own cheerleader, and just keep going. No success has ever come without hard work and perseverance, and the idioms on the subject are countless - so that in itself is saying something!

3. GO WITH YOUR GUT
Surround yourself with people who you know are going to help you succeed in your goals. Do business with, hire, trade and work with people you feel like you can trust. Be honest and expect honesty, and just go with your gut. For example, if you find a personal trainer who you can tell will be a good support to you - trust your instincts. Weight loss, like most other journeys, requires a certain connection between the mind and the body that often involves intuition.

4. TELL SOMEONE
When you see yourself shedding a little weight - or cutting down on that debt, or completing small parts of that project - tell someone. Sometimes it helps to verbalize ourselves getting closer to our goals. Like climbing the rungs on a ladder - each step closer took work - and acknowledging what it took you to get there helps remind you of the progress you are making.

ALL IN ALL  - this year we resolve - as a business - to continue to provide a high standard of customer service , and improve on it in any way we can. We resolve to continue to work closely with our manufacturers and suppliers to assure we are providing you with the highest quality products at the best prices. And last but not least - we resolve to support local business as often as possible.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ! WELCOME 2016!

5 top tips for tykes in tubs

Read Now

Picture
Little ones love hot tubs! They love the bubbles, the lights, the whirl-y jets and the fact that they have excellent nooks and crannies that can be used as some sort of underwater obstacle course. Sound fun? It is. But expect a lot of jumping, splashing and sliding.

No one wants to be the fun police, but SAFETY has to come first and foremost when it comes to kids and Hot Tubs. Below are 5 ways to have a safe and fun time in the hot tub with the kids.

1. The story of the bear who broke in to the hot tub

Picture
Once upon a time (in metro Vancouver) a big black bear broke into someone's backyard and used the hot tub and the pool for a little rest and relaxation. Once he was done he left a furry mess, and an awful 'wet dog' smell for the family to clean up.

This is why all above ground hot tubs today come with cover clips that lock the spa cover down when not in use. Although these clips are simple enough for anyone over 10 to get through, they are a good deterrent for curious little ones who may want to explore the tub when parents have their back turned. Most cover clips come with little keys that need to be used to unlock the cover - its best to keep these keys out of reach, and to keep the cover locked when the spa isn't in use. This works well for bears and kids alike!

2. Turn the temp down below 100f

Picture
Given the level of physical activity that takes place in a tub when used by kids, the water never needs to be has hot as possible. Giggles and tons of exertion create enough body heat for little ones to try to regulate without having to deal with additional physical stress of hot water. Overheated kids suffer from a variety of different illnesses, including dizziness and drowsiness. Keeping the water cool, and keeping all activity supervised AT ALL TIMES, is the only way to make sure hot tubs stay safe and fun for children.

*Please note babycenter.com advises that hot tubs should not be used at all by those under 5. This is because young children can overheat more quickly than adults. Your child should also be tall enough to stand in the center of the hot tub and still keep her head above the water to help prevent drowning

3. Go potty before you get in!

Picture

Please oh please, go before you get in. The guy at the hot tub store sold us a chemical that turns your pee bright green as soon as you pee in the tub, so everyone will know when anyone pees. That goes for adults too! (This one usually works if your kids are too young to get grossed out about the idea of sitting in urine.)

4. Shower before and DEFINITELY after

Picture
What you bring in to the tub stays in the tub. Showering before hot tub use is important because it washes away many of the common skin bacteria, but also because it removes perspiration, lotions, deodorants, powders and creams. Showering after the hot tub assures that you remove any chemical residue on the skin and in the hair.

5. Warm Towels and Cool Drinks once you're done Tubbin'

Picture
Extreme changes in temperature can cause lots of complications for kids. The hot water coupled with the fact that hot tubs can be dehydrating - makes drinking water an important thing to remember after getting out of the tub. Warm towels also help little ones gently ease back to cooler temperatures outside of tub.

--In my experience the best recipe for a calm sleepy child includes 15 minutes in the hot tub, with a warm towel and drink after. A quick rinse off, a yummy supper and then it's off to bed. The warmth of the tub makes it easier for my little one to fall quickly to sleep,  leaving mum and dad a little time for wine in the hot tub later.

Its an investment

Read Now

You're driving down the highway and you see a set of bright yellow tents screaming the word SALE in red. Inflatable dancing machine is going full tilt, and the low thump of heavy base out of one of the flashing hot tubs is making you wonder what time of day it is.
The typical Hot Tub Sale is in full swing. You wonder for a second if the business is legit, curiosity piqued, I wonder if they're giving out free hot dogs..... Aaah well  if they're here on the weekend maybe I'll swing in.

We know this kind of sale only too well. The inflatable dancing machine is ours, and yes it did go full tilt, because of which..its broken now.

Buying a hot tub is like buying a car in some ways. It is a long term investment, that you hope to get a lot of use out of, and a purchase where WARRANTY DOES MATTER. So how do you decide which spa to buy, made by whom, who from, and what is a fair price?

GO WITH YOUR GUT

A hot tub is an appliance just like your dishwasher, washer dryer or TV. It runs as much, gets as much use as any of those items, and as such has a chance to fail just like any other appliance.
Here are the most important things to keep in mind in choosing your spa:

  • Get a spa  from a reputable supplier. Companies that sells North American made products are always your best bet when it comes to quality, warranty and product support.
  • Buy local. This way you have someone to call whenever you need any information. For everything from "Hey, my water is cloudy what do I do?" to "I need a new pump"  you have the number of a real live person in your community  who can physically be in your backyard fixing your tub if you need be. (In our case you get the owners cell phone numbers where they can be reached any time of day or night - no joke.)
  • Take the time to learn the facts. Is the warranty on my hot tub pro-rated? Pro-rated means that after X number of months you will be charged a % of the replacement fees of any component of your spa. YES non-pro-rated warranties DO exist! Ask about ours.
  • Talk to the manufacturer, visit their website. Got any questions? Pick up the phone and call the manufacturers and dealers directly.
  • Probably most important of all SIT IN IT before you buy it. Spas come in all shapes and sizes, and every spa does not fit everyone. There are long, short, and medium lounge seats. More or less angled leg areas; steps that could be seats, seats that might work as steps - you get the picture.  SIT IN IT to make sure it fits you and what you are looking for, and as long as you like the dealer, the operation, and the staff, you are good to go!

How to be a water Wise Hot-Tubber

Read Now

Picture
Properly maintained Hot tubs don’t waste water.
A McGill University study shows the the average Canadian uses a whopping 329 liters of water everyday!! This translates to a mind blowing 360,255 liters or  95169 gallons for the average Canadian household per year. In times of drought it is only natural to be concerned with ways to conserve, and your hot tub is in fact and asset NOT a waste.

The average hot tub contains less than 1% of your total household water consumption, and well maintained water can last from 4-8 months, and provide a welcome break from the intense summer heat.

But how do you keep water chemistry just right, when you may not want to do a refill just yet?

Here are some tips:
  1. Remove any debris that falls into the spa while the cover is off will keep the water chemistry in balance and reduce the need to drain early.
  2. Upgrade to a water care technology that keeps the water cleaner longer and can reduce refilling to just once a year.
  3. Bring in a water sample to our store at Coombs Junction to make sure you are balancing everything correctly.
  4. Consider a new hot tub cover. Older worn covers wick in moisture and are a breading ground for mold and algae. A new hot tub cover will reduce evaporation and water waste by 95%.
  5. Most people use their hot tub for therapeutic purposes that include relief from achy muscles, chronic pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and stress. Instead of soaking in baths or taking extra-long showers for the benefits of warm water therapy, you can save water by using a hot tub instead.
  6. Drained and cooled hot tub water can be used for lawns and landscaping; the chemicals break down within 48 hours and won’t harm plants.
In the intense heat, your hot tub can be used as a cool tub by turning the temperature down, and following these tips will ensure that you're a happy hot tubber no matter what the conditions!
